Sapphire follows Ruby as catalyst to transport whomever can open the stone and recite the Gaelic incantation. With the Ruby, it was to the overland trek of the pioneers. Kit MacKlenna meets her cousin Abraham, aka Braham, and his lifetime friend and law partner, Cullen. She falls in love with Cullen and decides to stay in the past with him.

In Sapphire, Dr. Charlotte Mallory of Richmond VA spends much of her spare time in Civil War re-enactments. She is considered very knowledgable of the era. One such re-enactment weekend, of the Battle of Cedar Creek, she recieves a box in the mail from an Edinburgh legal firm. In her hurry, she puts it aside until a break when she opens it, recites the incantation and is transported back into the middle of the real Battle of Cedar Creek, October 19, 1864. After she acclimates herself, she recalls a certain General would be injured and so looks for, and finds, him. She cared for him until his death, with Gen. Custer at the bedside for his friend. Then she is summoned by Gen. Sheridan, who says he will burn down her family plantation, thus changing the family history, if she does not go to Chimborzo prision and rescue a Major Michael Abraham (Braham) McCabe. When she finds him, his abdominal wound is life threatening and the only thing she can do is take him back to her 21st century hospital, where longtime friend, Ken, does the surgery. Her brother, Jack help. Braham quickly recovers and begins to acclimate. His cousine, Kit, told him of her time travel. He inadvertently learns some Civil War history and the fate of President Lincoln.

"It was hard to protect a woman who went charging ahead before Broderick could check that the way was safe."

THE STORY: Broderick McNaughton is a wolf shifter who lives in the Austin Shiftertown. Readers of the Shifters Unbound series will know that the shifters are treated as second class citizens, forced to live in designated town with few rights. They are magical creatures having been created by their enemies the Fae to be entertainment and weapons of war.

Broderick knows something is wrong when he awakens in a strange place. He realizes that he has been abducted. The people who abducted him want information about the Shifters. Broderick escapes and returns to the Austin Shiftertown and his sort of girlfriend Joanne Greene. Joanne is human and her relationship with Broderick is complicated. The two are circling around one another at the same time that they are attracted to one another. Broderick’s abduction brings them closer together as they work together, use Joanne’s skills as a hacker, to discover who is threatening the Shifters.

The mystery includes a murdered Guardian, appearances by and updates about Austin Shiftertown residents and a real partnership between the main characters.

OPINION: I really liked this novella. The story is snappy and I was surprised at the resolution. It was a definite suspense/mystery story. With unexpected appearances and surprise resolutions, this book is a treat for fans of the series.

Ashley does a great job of keeping the overarching storyline of the series moving forward without allowing the plot to become too complicated.

Broderick is a fun hero. Sexy and brave, he doesn’t think much of himself at times because he is not part of the leadership of the Shiftertown.
Bad Wolf (Shifters Unbound) is the story of Broderick (wolf shifter) and Joanne (human). We meet Joanne in the previous story, Lion Eyes. She is Bree’s sister and once Bree was mated and brought into Shiftertown with Seamus, Joanne tagged along.

So as this story starts Broderick and Joanne have already had interaction. They live together and are around each other. They both acknowledge the attraction but Broderick hasn’t acted on it with the mating frenzy. Of course like any alpha shifter male he ignores the urge and acts dumb – That Joanne can’t be his mate. Oh no. Not. But Tiger still insists. Does the advice from Tiger sink in? No. Not at first. Like any guy it takes awhile for the brain to kick in to what his body is telling him.

So my complaint is there is no romance between Broderick and Joanne. Their relationship is already established. I sort of pieced their relationship together. She acknowledges Broderick but he doesn’t acknowledge what she is to him. Okay. That’s what we’re working with. And yet an adventure and threat of losing each other and they’re now involved. Romance? Um. . . . No.

So Broderick proves himself again and comes out ahead. There is mystery and a good plot going. My question was. . . If the sword kept talking to Broderick and ‘allowed’ him to hold / use / work with it. . . . In order to promote this story plot. .. . Then why is there that brand of a celtic knot on Broderick’s hand . . . . And why isn’t he stepping up to prove himself as another guardian? Now I can understand if he feels unworthy and isn’t literate enough. But his mate would help and he is open to being taught. That was shown. So I have to wonder IF the sword would pick someone else. The story ends before a new guardian is made.
3.75 stars–BAD WOLF is the latest installment in Jennifer Ashley’s adult Shifters Unbound paranormal romance series. Jennifer Ashley’s shifters are persecuted and discriminated against by the humans but the humans have help in their attempts to bring the shifters under control using magic-infused collars and segregated towns. The Shifter history reveals that the Fae created the Shifters but in doing so left a little bit of magic behind. This is wolf shifter/alpha Broderick McNaughton, and human/computer geek Joanne Greene’s storyline.

Told from third person point of view BAD WOLF follows the abduction and rescue of Broderick McNaughton, and the discovery that someone is searching for a way into the Guardian Network. The Guardians hold the secrets of the Shifter species and their connection to the Fae. What ensues is the search for the people responsible for Broderick’s abduction, and an unexpected trip to Faerie where Joanne and Broderick find themselves prisoners of the Fae. A couple of surprises greet our couple upon their arrival.

The relationship between Joanne and Broderick is one of friendship but Broderick refuses to believe that Joanne is his mate. The romance is limited; it is almost an afterthought as our couple traverse between worlds and attempt an escape in order to save their lives.

The secondary and supporting characters include several of the previous storyline characters –Seamus, Sean, Tiger and Spike as well as the Broderick’s younger brother Mason. Someone presumed missing and dead makes a surprising appearance.

We are introduced to Commander Kian of the Fae army; and feline shifter Daragh whose life is no longer his own.

About the Author

Amy A. Bartol is the award-winning and bestselling author of the Kricket Series (Under Different Stars and Sea of Stars) and the Premonition Series (Inescapable, Intuition, Indebted, Incendiary, and Iniquity). She lives in Michigan with her husband and their two sons.

Series: The Kricket Series (Book 3)MP3 CDPublisher: Brilliance Audio; MP3 Una edition (September 8, 2015)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 1501277839ISBN-13: 978-1501277832 Product Dimensions: 5.2 x 0.5 x 6.8 inches Shipping Weight: 2.4 ounces (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #4,778,976 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #5777 in Books > romance > science Fiction #42956 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Fantasy > Paranormal & Urban #121783 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction
So I seem to be going against the flow in terms of initial reviews but here I go :) First cut ( or vent?) – I will probably come back and edit this when I’ve calmed down 😉 (and maybe reread it too)

I really don’t know what to say, other than I really need to stop ready series as I seem to be continuously let down by (relatively) below par third books, and with love triangles that end up making everyone look like a tool (in fact I should add a checklist – has the full series been released? Is it a love triangle?)

There is not a question as to if you should by the book or not – if you’re here, you’ve obviously read the previous two and it’s a no brainer, you can’t not read the third book (is it even the final book in the series? on one hand I hope so but on the other hand if that was it I will be even less impressed) but I did go in very high expectations so I probably would have liked the book more if I wasn’t expecting so much

Having said that I’m just sad. I really, really really want to be able to say I loved this book but I just don’t think I can – the three star rating largely comes from the fact I loved the first two so much I couldn’t bring myself to give this anything less (and I hate writing negative reviews – maybe on its own this book would stand up well but when placed against the first two it just sort of pales.)

The first two books in the series were awesome. Some of my favourite books – I liked the characters, it was something a little bit different and I was incredibly emotionally invested. But this one just really didn’t work – where was the good writing? What happened to all those characters I was emotionally invested in and spent two books falling in love with?
I really didn’t want to write a bad review, but to say that I’m disappointed is an understatement! What happened? This book epitomizes why I try to stay away from series books especially those that have love triangles. First, I love Amy Bartol’s writing and I have devoured every book that she has written and I’ve been waiting on pins and needles without complaint for the final book in the Premonition series to come out. She is one of the very few authors that can drag me kicking and screaming into reading series books when I try so hard to stay away from them, because I felt like this book did what all series books does and fell into the inevitable third book falls apart trap. What happened to the story line? The characters that I fell in love with, invested in, cheered for, rooted for, etc. were all but nonexistent in this book. They were reduced to blurbs! What happened to Kricket? Where was that fierce spirit that fought with every fiber of her being to be with Trey that I saw in the first two books? I felt like she just settled in the end. Everybody got a little bit of what they wanted and that was enough for her so she just leaves! To me, Kricket bordered on being selfish in this story. Just seemed like a huge disconnection between the first two books! Now I must say I’m really worried about the final book in the Premonition Series!

******Spoiler Alert***********

This probably gives away too much in the book, but I needed to vent because this is another reason why I so disliked this story:

The relationship between Kricket and Kyon was just unbelievable, and my mind was blown away with the fact that Amy took it that far with Kricket and Kyon. I thought she was so in love with Trey! She just gave up on him! I’m really supposed to empathize, like, love etc.

BETWEEN SISTERS by Kristin Hannah
February 9, 2008

Rating 4/5 stars

This was my first book by Kristin Hannah and I loved it! I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the story and how fast I was able to get through it.

Meghann Dontess is a high-powered divorce lawyer and is obviously very successful based on where she lives and how she lives. She goes from man to man, never seeing anyone for very long, avoiding commitments. Her life is empty. Part of Meghann’s problem is a guilt that she’s lived with for most of her life. She and her younger sister Claire Cavenaugh were separated when Meghann decided to leave Claire with Claire’s biological father. Their mother rarely was around to take care of them, and in order to save themselves, Meghann had gone in search of Claire’s biological father, who promptly took them in. But Meghann and Claire’s father clashed, and so Meghann ran away, knowing she was leaving Claire in responsible hands. But since that parting, the two sisters have grown apart, and every time they do talk on the phone, they fight. Meghann actually took care of Claire as a mother would a daughter, because their own mother was not responsible enough or was ever there to take care of them herself. Being an actress was much more important to their mother.

Now, Meghann and Claire are reunited. Claire has decided to marry a man that she had just recently met, and Meghann feels it’s her responsibility to steer Claire in the right direction. Meghann had been out of Claire’s life for the past 27 years, but now she feels it’s time to do the right thing. Claire, however, doesn’t want her older sister meddling. All she wants is Meghann’s blessing.
Author Hannah sets up an intriguing dilemma, one that will be familiar to many readers. Two sisters strike out in different directions, then come together again at a critical point in their lives. WIll they reconcile? That’s what keeps the pages turning. But I believe the deeper question is: Why should they feel guilty if they don’t?
The novel begins with big sister Meaghan, a hotshot divorce lawyer, being challenged by her highly-paid therapist. She’s almost a stereotype: wealthy and successful with an unsatisfying, empty personal life. Coincidentally Claire, the younger sister, has just become engaged to a country singer. Naturally Meaghan’s first thought is not to congratulate the bride, but to offer help with the pre-nuptial agreement!
Hannah begins by emphasizing the contrast between the sisters. Claire, a party-girl who dropped out of college, versus Meaghan who got a law degree. Claire, simple in the country; Meaghan, sophisticated in the city. Stereotypically, we’re supposed to feel sympathy for Claire and resent Meaghan’s heavy-handed intrusions.
Meaghan feels guilty about losing touch with Claire, but it’s hard to see why. As children, left alone by a self-centered mother who stumbled into a starring television role, Meaghan saved Claire from a foster home with Social Services. It was Meaghan who ended up homeless, who put herself through college and law school. In the novel, I believe the Meaghan character was more well-rounded and more interesting, with contradictions that led to questions.
Following a bizarre episode in a courtroom, Meaghan finds herself with time on her hands. She visits Claire and volunteers to help with the wedding.
